A few weeks ago, about the same time, two of my fertility patients contacted me and told me they are pregnant. I was in Ecuador and I was so excited for my pregnant to-be-moms. One of them come in regularly for acupuncture, herbal and MAM (Mayan Abdominal Treatment) treatments since October 07. Another woman came to see me once for MAM and got pregnant one month later. I am so happy for them!
Sometimes I would read online that some poor woman's uterus was taken out or was put on birth control pills because they suffer from painful periods. In Chinese medicine, painful period is a sign of imbalance. Depending on the types of pain, it could be due to qi/blood deficiency or blood/qi stasis. With proper pattern differentiation and treatment (both herbal and acupuncture treatments), it is possible to revert this. There are many after-effects after the uterus is gone: organs start falling, hormonal imbalances, depression, etc. If you are thinking about taking your uterus out to end the suffering, I suggest you think again. Don't give up your organ so easily, it's there for a reason.... Chinese medicine is very strong in OB/GYN. Check out my teacher, Sharon Weizenbaum's website (http://www.whitepinehealingarts.com); she has been practicing Chinese medicine for over 23 years.
There's always hope out there!

Speaking with Medcats at U of A
I was invited to speak at Medcats meeting at U of A earlier this week. Medcats is a club for premed students at University of Arizona. I was excited to share Chinese medicine with these future doctors. It's a small group and most of them still have a few years ahead of them towards being a doc. I am glad that they are interested in "alternative" modalities, and this will make them excellent doctors -- being open-minded. I also admire their enthusiasm, and hope they keep their humility even after they become doctors; the only way to be a good doctor is to keep learning and stay outside the box.
The legal structure for Chinese medicine in Arizona is much behind those states such as California, Washing or Oregon. For example, most insurance companies in Arizona do not cover acupuncture. So when people are sick, western prescription will be paid by the insurance companies, but acupuncture treatments need to come out of individual's pocket. This is quite odd because acupuncture treatments actually will save money for insurance companies in the long run because people won't be dependent on medications to "manage" their illnesses. I hope one day insurance will cover acupuncture in Arizona, so more people would be able to afford the treatments as a preventative medicine.
Working as a Chinese medicine practitioner is my passion. Everyday brings some freshness and insights for me. My patients are my best teachers. I see and feel their sufferings and in many cases, I can see the grouts they just can't seem to get out of. I hope that in addition to ease their suffering, a spark will be lit in their spirits via the treatment. We all need inspirations and hope, and that's what keep us going each day. Chinese medicine is more than "fixing the body" like some of my patients said, it works with mind and spirit. Body, mind and spirit are inseparable in Chinese medicine.
When we are not grounded or connect with the higher power (some people call them God(s), universal power or higher-self), we tend to get lost in life. In fact, if the crown and the root chakras (energy centers) are fully charged and run well, nothing can sway us in the world. Meditation is a good way to keep our crown chakras opened. Exercises such as Tai-chi, on the other hand, can help us staying grounded. Being with natures can keep all our chakras purified, so spending more time in nature is essential.
More later,

Support Dalai Lama and Tibet!
My sister forwarded this letter to me earlier today, please give it a read and offer your support if you could. When I was in China last September, I couldn't visit any of the websites related to Taiwan such as www.chinatimes.com. Media access is very much controlled in China. On the surface, cities such as Shanghai offer modern infrastructure and active commerce, but deep down, freedom of speech is out of question. I pray for people in Tibet and Taiwan. I pray for peace, and only peace will prevail.

Hi,
I just signed an urgent petition calling on the Chinese government to respect human rights in Tibet and engage in meaningful dialogue with the Dalai Lama. I have loved the Dalai Lama forever. This is really important, and I thought you might want to take action:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/tibet_end_the_violence/98.php/?cl_tf_sign=1
After nearly 50 years of Chinese rule, the Tibetans are sending out a global cry for change. But violence is spreading across Tibet and neighbouring regions, and the Chinese regime is right now considering a choice between increasing brutality or dialogue, that could determine the future of Tibet and China.
We can affect this historic choice. China does care about its international reputation. Its economy is totally dependent on "Made in China" exports that we all buy, and it is keen to make the Olympics in Beijing this summer a celebration of a new China that is a respected world power.
President Hu needs to hear that 'Brand China' and the Olympics can succeed only if he makes the right choice. But it will take an avalanche of global people power to get his attention. Click below to join me and sign a petition to President Hu calling for restraint in Tibet and dialogue with the Dalai Lama -- and tell absolutely everyone you can right away. The petition is organized by Avaaz, and they are urgently aiming to reach 1 million signatures to deliver directly to Chinese officials:
